arget's Fashion Makeover

Most of the time, when you visit a major retailer like Target or Wal-Mart, you're in need of some small necessities. But for the aspiring fashion design school student, you won't want to miss the fashion department of Target.

From Career to Casual Fashion

In the Target clothing section, designer labels abound, as if the place were carrying boutique clothes. You can find smart career separates, shoes, laptop bags, and briefcases by Isaac Mizrahi. Also there's Mossimo, a brand that originated in the Southern California-based surfing culture. The design line has grown from board shorts and rash guards to boot-cut jeans and tailored jackets, as well as purses and accessories.
In the junior's section you'll also find distressed jeans and t-shirts emblazoned with funky designs like angels and cowgirls from the Italian label Fiorucci.
In the home section, designer Cynthia Rowley and style editor Ilene Rosenzweig have successfully launched their Swell line of home accessories, bedding, and towels. The line has also branched out into jewelry and sunglasses, making an auspicious start for mega-retailer fashion.

Fashion Design Expands to Major Bargain Retailers

Other designers have jumped on the major-retailer bandwagon. Stella McCartney's collection for discount-fashion giant H&M sold out in a matter of hours, complete with desperate crowds outside the door. Marc Jacobs, whose feminine and classic designs are everywhere in Hollywood, is even rumored to be considering a reasonably priced line for wide distribution.
If you want to go to fashion design school, you can get started by opening your eyes to the fashion design around you. A trip for milk and toilet paper could end up an experience in fashion design.
