Toronto Continues to Grow its Fashion Focus through Critical Support

Toronto, the fifth largest city in North America, is rapidly developing as a major center of fashion design. With supportive leaders committed to new designers and their careers in fashion, it represents a land of opportunity for young designers looking to succeed in the industry.

Joint Effort Makes Toronto Strong

Toronto is quickly becoming a leading location in fashion design, thanks to a number of important factors that are all coming together. Cheri DiNovo, the culture critic of the CDP (the Canadian Democratic Party), is making fashion headlines in Toronto.
"We are simply asking, and this seems so obvious...[that] fashion be considered part of the culture portfolio," Ms. DiNovo told the Canadian publication CBA. She established her position during the L'Oréal Fashion Week in Toronto, where hundreds of new fall designs were on display.
Ms. DiNovo is submitting a resolution to the Ontario Ministry of Culture that would provide tax breaks and grants to new fashion designers.

Why Toronto?

For young designers, Toronto is a fabulous place to begin a career. Along with several top fashion design schools, a thriving garment district, and growing high-end retail opportunities, there is also the Toronto Fashion Incubator--an industry-leading organization that supports new designers as well.
The city of Toronto even knows whose lead to follow, partnering with Milan and the Fashion Design Council of Canada (FDCC)--as well as other city groups from both countries--to host fashion shows. As an international city whose fashion focus is strengthening, Toronto is the place to be.
