Going In and Out of Fashion

Fashion designing, merchandising, and marketing are among the great concepts students learn in fashion design school. But they also pick up some handy day-to-day skills that can lead to more than just a fashion career.
For fashion designers, a new concept is often started on paper. Fashion sketching is an important skill, used by designers to plan and present their designs to potential clients, buyers, and other industry professionals. Most design students pick up the basics and go on to other topics, but for a talented few, fashion sketching becomes a career in itself.

Designing a Different Career

Thanks to an associate's degree from a San Francisco fashion design school, artist Vicki Behringer honed her skills in the art of fashion sketching.
She does not work behind the scenes at a fashion house, however. She never really even started a fashion design career. Instead, she is a courtroom artist, chronicling the daily happenings of a San Francisco court.
Sound random? It might be, but the skills aren't. What students learn in fashion design school can be applied to many different careers. While most students go on to work in some area of the fashion industry, others take the skills they learned and build different careers, some having little to do with fashion.
