San Francisco Fashion Scene is Alive and Well

San Francisco's fashion scene has been busy this year--and with good reason. As a West Coast fashion hub, it's no longer playing second fiddle to Los Angeles. When they need a break from La-La Land, fashion designers, students and consumers are looking northward.

Fashionable Events in San Francisco

Sponsored by Sephora, Fashion Week descended upon San Francisco in February 2007, and it featured successful designers like Marc Jacobs and Tyson Beckford. The night's notable moment occurred when model Naomi Campbell appeared on the runway--to the nods of fashion critics and hysterics of some fashion design school students in the audience. The show featured over 20 designers who had first debuted their fall collections in Bryant Park several weeks before.

Fashion Traditions

While not all young designers and fashion school students can gain access to the show (previous few could, actually), another good reason to study in San Francisco is now going on at the de Young museum in Golden Gate Park. "Vivienne Westwood: 36 Years of Fashion" is the title of the current exhibit showcasing the famous British designer. Around 150 pieces from her fascinating career (leather bondage wear and platform shoes are included) show the variety she brought to the fashion scene and the British rock sensibility that made her famous.

Location is Key

If you are considering fashion design school, San Francisco will pay off in the end. You'll not only enjoy attending a fashion design school located in the city, but you'll appreciate the access to shows and exhibits that can spark your creativity.
