A Strong Reminder of San Francisco Fashion (and its Students)

Long known as one of the few fashion design outposts of the west coast, San Francisco did its share for fashion design this month, hosting its third annual Fashion Week. It was an event that honored new designers and fashion students alike.
Like all fashion weeks, the San Francisco Fashion Week waved its magic wand over 20 new and successful fashion designers, inviting them to display their Spring 2007 clothing designs at the city's most auspicious fashion design event. From August 23-27, fashion fans from all over the Bay Area and the country flocked to San Francisco to see the latest in west coast fashion.

The Designers

San Francisco Fashion Week featured some established names in fashion design, as well as up-and-comers, including the following:
  • Colleen Quen
  • Cari Borja
  • Richard Hallmarq
  • Donna Lou
  • Genevieve Primavera

Fashion Design School Students Featured

In addition to showcasing the Spring 2007 clothing designs of established fashion designers, it also gave fashion design school students a chance at the spotlight.
For the second year in a row, an event called "Emerging Stars" took place at the SF Fashion Week. The show will feature the new clothing designs of 16 local fashion design school students. The wide variety of clothing design elements that join to create this interesting show has lent meaning to the show's title, "Black Orchid."
Fashion design shows like this one just go to show how important fashion design school is to a young designer's career. Some of these fashion design school students' clothing designs have never seen the light of day -- and now they will be debuted at the San Francisco Fashion Week. Talk about a career opportunity.
